In chapter 3 subversive bodily acts of gender trouble judith butler challenges the ideas of the way society views sex gender and sexuality. One does not always stay intact. In formulating her idea of gender performativity, Butler had drawn on the work of J. L. Austin, the philosopher of language who first proposed “performative utterances”: These are speech acts that don’t just describe reality but change it, like saying “I do” in a wedding ceremony. If the gender performance isn’t a repetition, the identity of it will change which means it is not stable or coherent.
